Ann Brown

Mohawk

My name is Ann Brown. I am mixed, Mohawk, Irish and French. I grew up near Belleville, ON, and moved to Ottawa, Algonquin territory where I connected with people at the Wabano centre. I learned about making Quill Jewelry from a Mohawk woman named Shirley and how to work with Birch bark and other materials from a respected canoe maker, Pinock. I'm constantly learning and growing and it shows in my art. I try to incorporate lots of nature in my paintings as it reminds me of my grnadmother and everything she taught me about plants and medicine.
