Mi'kmaq

Aaniin! I am Mi'kmaq, my grandfather comes from Pictou, Nova Scotia. I currently live in and am connected to the Barrie, ON community. I am a new artist attending university to become a theatre practitioner and playwright. Due to the pandemic I have been unable to practice my craft and have found a new home in dreamcatchers.

I taught myself how to make them with resources from the Barrie Native Friendship Centre. As a camp counsellor there, it was important for me to understand them completely so I could not only show the campers how to make them, but also tell the story behind why we use dreamcatchers. I quickly fell in love with them and began making too many for my own good! I plan on continuing my search for knowledge on many cultural crafts. Dreamcatchers were just the first step in connecting my creativity with my Indigenous heritage.
